Hot on the heels of the last release ‘Firewalker’, Thrash Pilot are back with another storming double A side, “Stampire”. (KILLSCR02)
Jim Kennedy last released under the name ‘Thrash Pilot’ in 1999 on Manchester’s classic ‘Abstrakt Recordings’ along with label mates ‘Proteus’ and ‘DJ Hidden’. A former live act, Thrash Pilot once performed at drum and bass nights UK wide. After moving to Leeds and presenting a show on pirate station ‘Move FM’ along with his DJ partner ‘DJ Snappa’ Jim, now under the name ‘Morpheus’ released on the now defunct ‘Nu-‐Urban Music’. After a long period away from the scene after becoming disillusioned with the state of drum and bass a few years ago, Jim is now back with his new label Killscreen Recordings.
Detail is 21 year old Danil Marin from Kiev, Ukraine.
Initially Influenced by Technical Itch, Detail has carved out a niche for himself and stepped up his production skills to create world class dnb with dance floor production power.
With releases already on C.I.A., Dispatch, Utopia Music, Symmetry and support from Noisia, The Upbeats, Break and Klute and forthcoming releases on: Critical & Horizons – Detail is definitely a brand new talent soon to be on everyone’s lips.
The say many hands make light work which is why this week Data Transmission has turned to five piece drum & bass outfit Shapeshifter to deliver this exclusive podcast mix. Already a household name in their native New Zealand with 3 platinum albums under their belt and their latest album ‘Delta’ riding high at number 1 in the Kiwi chart it seemed the right time to welcome them into the DT fold as they continue their quest to conquer the globe. As famed for their innovative live sets which have rocked some of the worlds biggest festivals with genre-defining performances at Glastonbury and The Big Chill as an evolutionary sound that has organically developed with the band, Shapeshifter is soon to be a name you're hearing a lot of.
This elemental, electronic soul outfit has morphed time and time again with seismic shifts in genre. From depth charged bass music, elastic electronic textures and barreling breakbeats to bedrocks of soul, jazz and rave that ground their experimentation it appears clear to us that the latest incarnation of their sound looks set to take Europe by storm. Their crossover success in the southern hemisphere aside Shapeshifter have also seen their work picked up by iconic South London drum and bass label Hospital Records who after hearing the track ‘Monarch’ quickly signed the effort for release on the imprint affirming the bands stake in not just the mainstream but also cutting edge underground culture. So with their fifth studio effort out now check out this ace mix showcasing Shapeshifter’s ability to traverse a plethora of different genres whilst retaining a quintessentially signature sound. Time to up the BPM!

Auxiliary's owner and lead producer ASC doesn't need introducing to most, but for those new to his work, witness a true musical visionary of the electronic music scene who has carved his own distinctive path year after year, enjoying noted success across multiple genres and sub genres. ASC's progression has been unequivocally unique and can be felt with each release on his own and a plethora of respected labels. Programme 01 reveals where ASC is at right now, here on Auxiliary.
* Solemnity – Industrial tones kick the EP off with a building, beaty track packed with detail and intrigue, thumping steadily with an eerie atmosphere before 808 subs and smooth vocal samples take over in an impressive directional shift sure to turn your already nodding head, as ASC again challenges the conventions of what we traditionally expect from 170bpm music.
* Fulcrum – Futurist space-funk is the order of the day here, with Fulcrum perpetuating a moody, melodic exploration of synths and echoed snares, laced with clinical effects, basslines and 80's sci-fi infused euphony. A true delight.
* Wave Upon Wave – A stunning piece set to stabby electro hits and muffled kickdrums, Wave Upon Wave is a beautifully crafted slice of atmospheric techno, if it can be classified at all. Purposeful, earthy bass tones maintain a swift pace throughout.
* Lone Star – Rounding off the EP is the bass-heavy Lone Star, pounding through an often melancholic landscape with an intricately crafted beat. A highlight here is the juxtaposed yet perfectly placed xylophone accompaniment, playfully developed over washing vocals and synths.

It's fair to say that Justin Robertson is a bit of leg-end. Working behind the counter of record shop Eastern Bloc in Manchester in the early '90s, he's gone on to perform on Top of the Pops as Lionrock, remixed acts like Bjork and the Happy Mondays, and played everything from dub to techno at the world's finest nightspots. His latest production project as The Deadstock 33s, following aliases such as Gentleman Thief and Revtone, mixes up gritty post-punk disco leftism with a house, techno and electro edge, exactly what you'll find on this podcast.

Via Tim Reaper: I was asked to do a 60 minute mix for a US radio show called "The After Party" on a station called C89.5 FM Seattle (http://www.c895.org) and this is the outcome. It's a real mixture of some old jungle, some new forthcoming jungle, some early 2000s D&B, some recent D&B, some D&B dubs I've been sent and even some juke/footwork to keep it interesting. ;)

You might recognise the name Protocol from his release 'Veksd' featured on the Logarithmic album back in June. Since then 2 major things have happened, he won the Outlook Festival DJ competition and he's dropped the vowels from his name! Check out why PRTCL is tipped for big things in the future, not only can he make bangers but he is a sick DJ too...enjoy
Massive release that just landed in our mail box. Making his fifth appearance on the label, Seba gives us a release dripping with emotion and depth on “Shades Of Me & You”. With its steppy drums, deep bass and commanding vocals all wrapped up in Seba’s trademark sound.
The flip sees Blu Mar Ten take the reigns on remix duty for Seba’s classic “Never Let You Go”. Keeping the original vocal intact and momentum going, Blu Mar Ten have turned out a fantastic remix. New Rhodes layered on top of a new deadly reese bassline adds a new intensity to the original.
Set to be released later this month, this one for Seba fans and Blu Mar Ten fans alike!
Icelandic trio Samaris don’t make background electronica. “We want people to experience something they haven’t experienced before,” says Aslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir, the group’s clarinet player. “We want people to really be a part of the atmosphere we’re creating.” Samaris formed in January 2011 when Magnúsdóttir and Jófrour Akadóttir, her pal from clarinet class, realised they “wanted to do something different, something electronic.” Because the girls “knew nothing about computers,” Magnúsdóttir contacted someone who did, childhood friend þórour Kári Steinþórsson. “We met in the middle and everything just clicked.”
And in this interview with Dazed Digital, Samaris puts together an exclusive mega mix of 1993 tracks that helped to shape their sound.
Track list:
Aphex Twin - Weathered Stone
Tricky - Suffocated Love
Polygon Window - Bike Pump Meets Bucket
Jamiroquai - Didgin Out
Tha Alkaholiks - Soda Pop
Req - Soul Plot
Björk - Violently Happy (MAW 12'' remix)
m500 & 3mb - the cosmic courier
Quadrant - Infinition (Carl Craig Mix)
3mb feat. Juan Atkins - Jazz Is The teacher (Atkins edit)
DJ Shadows and the Groove Robbers - In/Flux
Wu-tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.
It's been revealed that the Akkord project is headed up by Synkro & Indigo, which, if you're familiar with their music, makes total sense. Both solo and in tandem, Joe McBride and Liam Blackburn have spent the past five years turning out intelligently crafted bass music in a variety of vibrant shades. The Akkord name has similarly grown to be associated with complex rhythms and imposing bass weight. The journey began in 2012 with a couple of limited-run vinyl releases and continued with Navigate, a standout four-track EP for Houndstooth, the high-flying label venture from London venue Fabric. That release's title track is a good place to get a handle on Akkord: the mood is cold but engaging, and its clever drum programming puts it at an intersection between techno, bass music and IDM.
In THIS interview, an Akkord album is the works for Houndstooth, but ahead of that release we get RA.372, a near hour-long exploration of the duo's thrilling vision of club music.
Drum & bass doesn't get a ton of attention on XLR8R these days, but certain artists' work is simply too good to ignore. dBridge (a.k.a. Darren White) is one of those artists. The UK producer has been turning out quality tunes since the mid '90s, and was also a member of seminal drum & bass supergroup Bad Company, but these days, he keeps busy as a solo producer. He continues to make drum & bass under the dBridge moniker, but also experiments with the 130-bpm range as Velvit. Somehow, he also finds the time to head up essential drum & bass outpost Exit Records, which remains a must-listen imprint. Next week, dBridge will be issuing the Move Way EP via R&S, a two-track effort that finds him still operating in top form. Given that, we figured that now would be a good time to hear a bit more of the UK veteran's musical vision, so we invited him to put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series.
As expected, the mix has its fair share of drum & bass — it's also worth noting that the vast majority of the tunes have been pulled from the Exit catalog — but the 50-minute session finds dBridge going well beyond the genre he's most often affiliated with. Like many artists working with faster tempos, he's discovered the potent possibilities that arise when footwork and D&B are brought together, and the podcast also includes several forays into half-time, hip-hop-esque rhythms. It's a hectic listen, albeit an orderly one, as dBridge's mixes are precise, to say the least. More importantly, they're compelling, which is why we'll have this mix on repeat throughout the week.

Break, Fields, Hydro, Mako and Villem have come together to create one of this year's best dance floor smashers for the Symmetry label. On the A side, Break's contribution Music Is Better is a personal favourite - smooth and soulful, easily one of the most surprising dance floor rollers in a long time. On the flip Fields, Hydro, Mako and Villem combine sensual chords and heavy bass to create something absolutely wonderful. Not to be missed, get this NOW.
Amen breaks. Chopped to oblivion. And rather good too. That's the pitch for the latest release by Andy Skopes, bringing to the kind of Amen led insanity not seen since the early Breakage records of the early 2000s. As far as dance floor stormers go, this one veers between the sublime and the outright mental. Imagine the sounds of Technicality, but brought to date for the 2013 massive. You need this in your collection right now.
