Falty DL - St. Marks (Sepalcure Remix)

Via XLR8R: The duo of Travis Stewart (a.k.a. Machine Drum) and Praveen Sharma, better known as Sepalcure (pictured above), are set to follow-up last year's excellent Love Pressure EP with a new effort entitled Fleur and have sent along this remix of fellow NYC beatsmith Falty DL — who has a new album of his own coming in March on Planet Mu — to remind us of why we're excited for the forthcoming release. The remix is a sizzling slow-mover at first, one in which chopped vocals pop and chirp amongst bouncing drums. Around the 1:45 mark comes the party; a luscious, side-chained pad floats around the 2-steppin' snare and percussion, leaving you no choice but to move one of your extremities along with the track. The only real decision you have to make is which rhythm to move along to.

LWE Podcast 61: Sepalcure

It’s one thing to be excited about music from your hometown. It’s quite another to find out that some of the most exciting dance music on the shelves right now, in your humble opinion, was made quite literally down the street from you. When I met Praveen Sharma this past summer, we initially bonded over living on the same street just a few blocks from each other. When a mutual friend pulled me aside and said, “You’re talking to one of the Sepalcure dudes,” I was shocked I hadn’t heard any woozy, loved-up bass coming in through my back window. (Finding out that the other Sepalcure dude, Travis Stewart, had spent a chunk of his musical formative years in my hometown in Florida blew my mind a bit as well.) A collaboration between old friends and New York dance music veterans, Sepalcure very quickly moved from casual side-project to Hotflush-approved, extremely-hotly-tipped “lovestep” juggernaut. After a recent taping of Bless Up! at Brooklyn’s famed Halcyon record shop, I sat down with Sepalcure to find out how it all came together. The boys were also kind enough to provide us with an aural accompaniment to the interview — an exclusive, edit-heavy mix of the sort of tender house, fiesty bass, and Sepalcure sounds that’s perhaps best enjoyed with a smooth Malbec and that special someone.

XLR8R Podcast 159: Sepalcure

The UK gets most of the shine for the whole post-dubstep/future-garage/whatever-the-hell-it's-called-this-week scene, but a few US artists have been making some noise over on this side of the pond. One such act is Sepalcure, the Brooklyn-based duo of Travis Stewart (a.k.a. Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma. After years spent working together running the Cassette NYC club night and the online mix archive Percussion Lab, last year the producers joined forces in the studio, focusing on the soulful sounds of '90s house, 2-step, and UK bass music. Their debut, the Love Pressure EP, dropped earlier this summer on the esteemed Hotflush label, and now we've corralled the boys into assembling an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast. And not to get all patriotic and flag-waving, but Sepalcure has done the US of A real proud here, expanding their sound palette even further while adeptly shifting tempos, moods, and styles over the course of 23 tracks and 51 minutes.
