dBridge - City of Lonely Runaways / Dischord

Dis-015-dBridge-A/City of Lonely Runaways. B/Dischord by Disfigured Dubz

dBridge is far from being a new name on anyoneʼs lips, having released music on countless labels and his own Exit Records.

Here we have two analogue masterpieces - to be released in September on Skream's Disfigured Dubz imprint - that show how diverse a tempo can be. Exploring his beloved 170bpm he takes us through two emotional tracks of complex chord sequences and lush string arrangements tinted with his trademark melancholic signature. Watch out for the promos via http://www.surus.co.uk/disfigured-dubz/ soon.

RA.259 - Skream

Dubstep's biggest DJ steps up.

Croydon. Big Apple Records. Hatcha. Skream's back story evokes all the right passages of dubstep folklore. Oli Jones began making music as a 15-year-old; he was an employee of the now legendary record store and one of dubstep's first and foremost producers before his teenage years were through. Much of the music in the developmental stages of his career was recorded alongside Benga, with whom Jones now lines up—in addition to Artwork—as Magnetic Man. The group became the genre's biggest crossover success to date at the end of last year with the release of their self-titled album, although Jones as always remained entirely difficult to pin down— NonPlus+, Swamp 81, Deep Medi Musik and Tempa are just a few of the imprints to host his zig-zagging 12-inches in the past few of years.

Various Artists - Mosaic Volume One [Exit Records]

The amount of excellent tunes featured on this compilation is ridiculous: Yes, dBridge's Exit label is now a by-word for quality music. This compilation alone features quality tunes from upcoming producers such as Indigo, Synkro, alongside established names such as Commix, and Skream. Absolutely essential.

SKREAM - FIRECALL

A freebie from Skream and uncharacteristically mellow - more 1990s Renegade Hardware that anything else. Worth downloading.

Mosaic Volume 1 [Exit]

Mosaic Vol 1 CD by Exit Records UK

With so much good music arriving in the Exit inbox it was decided that a various artist project was needed to ensure that it all sees the light of day and doesn’t get caught up in a never ending schedule of singles.

As normal with Exit Records, there’s no prejudice in the track selection. Well known producers such as Skream, Instra:mental, Scuba and Commix rub shoulders with some inspiring new talents such as Indigo, Synkro, Mode and Code 3. The theme of the album is quality timeless music, whether it be a dance floor killer such as Systems ‘Observation Point’ or Loxy and Resounds ‘Vertigo’ through to the tangerine dreamlike sounds of Croms ‘Invisible Cities’ or Stray’s ‘Pushed’, this album truly represents the more experimental side of Drum and Bass as opposed to the crash bang wollop which seems to be the only side of Drum and Bass portrayed by the mainstream media today.

Hopefully this album will manage to reach the people that thought this forward thinking music was left behind in the nineties and let them know that it’s still alive and well and still capable of throwing up some surprising and unpredictable results.

Benga - Baltimore Clap + FREE TRACK

Benga's Phaze: One EP is out now on Tempa and the A-side track, Baltimore Clap, now has an official animated video. Kristofer Ström from Blinkink made it and he says it "follows a hapless little chap on a terrifying journey through a cavernous clap factory".

Of course Benga is also part of Magnetic Man alongside Skream & Artwork and they've spent the past few months holed up in a studio in Cornwall working on their heavily anticipated debut album. Skream has just 'leaked' a free taster from the album called MAD (download it below).
