Krust comes from a background steeped in drum & bass history. He was an original purveyor of jungle in the early nineties, emerging from a Bristolian family of remarkable musical achievement. As co-founder of Full Cycle and Reprazent crew with Roni Size, he produced much of New Forms and went on to write records such as Set Speed, Angles and Warhead, tracks that define this legendary era of drum & bass.

One for the lovers of the harder end of drum & bass. Evol Intent are giving away a laptop-live mix, based on performances from their autumn 2009 tour. Defying genres, the mix has moments of drum & bass, dubstep, hip hop and everything in-between.

Accompanying the mix is an EP of remixes and edits exported and extended for DJ sets. These tunes include:

* The Rewards is More Cheese (Evol Intent Live Edit): This is a remix of Deadmau5's smash hit ready for drum & bass sets.
* Binary Calling: a mash-up of Evol Intent's remix of Tech Itch & Kemal's The Calling with Binary Finary's seminal trance classic 1998.
* Champion Sound (Evol Intent dubstep edit): a classic amongst most drum & bass heads, Q-Project's Champion Sound is updated for the dubstep crowd.

Resident Advisor 229: Commix

House and techno probably aren't what you expect when you see the word Commix. But George Levings and Guy Brewer have been full of surprises of late, not least of which was the commissioning of a remix album of their massive drum & bass full-length Call to Mind which found Kassem Mosse, Underground Resistance and Marcel Dettmann rubbing shoulders with drum & bass stalwarts Instra:mental and dBridge. As Levings recently put it, "We didn't want an album that had anything too insular, too samey. We wanted it to tell a journey through different genres of music."
Levings and Brewer have long attempted to stretch the boundaries of the oft-insular drum & bass world. Just listen to their versatile Fabric.Live 44 mix or "Japanese Electronics," the "luscious precursor to today's '80-fetishising Tetris-step" (as RA's Max Bacharach poetically called it last week). On this hefty hour-long mix, the duo do it again, taking you through some of their favorite tunes of the 4/4 persuasion.

LWE Podcast 61: Sepalcure

It’s one thing to be excited about music from your hometown. It’s quite another to find out that some of the most exciting dance music on the shelves right now, in your humble opinion, was made quite literally down the street from you. When I met Praveen Sharma this past summer, we initially bonded over living on the same street just a few blocks from each other. When a mutual friend pulled me aside and said, “You’re talking to one of the Sepalcure dudes,” I was shocked I hadn’t heard any woozy, loved-up bass coming in through my back window. (Finding out that the other Sepalcure dude, Travis Stewart, had spent a chunk of his musical formative years in my hometown in Florida blew my mind a bit as well.) A collaboration between old friends and New York dance music veterans, Sepalcure very quickly moved from casual side-project to Hotflush-approved, extremely-hotly-tipped “lovestep” juggernaut. After a recent taping of Bless Up! at Brooklyn’s famed Halcyon record shop, I sat down with Sepalcure to find out how it all came together. The boys were also kind enough to provide us with an aural accompaniment to the interview — an exclusive, edit-heavy mix of the sort of tender house, fiesty bass, and Sepalcure sounds that’s perhaps best enjoyed with a smooth Malbec and that special someone.
