FACT MIX 382: DAVID RODIGAN

LISTEN HERE

For four decades David Rodigan has embraced reggae music with an enthusiasm that should inspire fans of any genre: He still considers himself a fan and goes to the trouble of collecting autographs every time he meets an artist he admires. As fans listeners will attest, autographs aren’t the only thing he collects: across his years DJing reggae on Radio London, Capital, Kiss and BBC Radio 1xtra, not to mention countless soundclashes, he’s built up a fearsome collection of oneaway dubplates from some of reggae’s biggest names. For over an hour, Rodigan brings out dubplates from Barrington Levy, Shaggy and more, blending old and new school reggae with his signature toasting, and it’s just perfect. No one – and we mean no one – does it like him.

Solid Steel Radio Show 11/1/2013 Part 1 + 2 - Coldcut meets The Orb

Recorded on the anniversary of JFK's assassination and 21 years after their historic '92 New Year mix on Kiss 100 FM, Coldcut meets The Orb inna Uptown Youth House for the Return Trip. Matt Black and Jonathan More alongside studio accomplice Dor Wand got suitably enhanced with Dr LX Paterson and Youth for a multi-player late night jam session lasting over three hours. They then entrusted the multitracks of the set to DJ Food who heroically edited, condensed and massaged the sprawling swamp of sound into a tight - but also loose - Solid Steel session.

Swimming through the mix are Lee Perry, Actress, Prince Jammy, Iggy Pop, Monty Python, Hank Williams and Hal 9000. Alongside unreleased dubs from the players themselves, remixes and versions of tunes old and new, the complete track listing for this marathon set may never be fullly disclosed. Its full of sonic secrets to melt your mind, probably best listened to in headphones late at night with all suitable facilities for the full effect. Enjoy this trip.

Smoke Machine Podcast 041 Petstov

Petstov is a designer, writer, and a former stockbroker born in Valdivia, Chile, where in early 90's he started taking music beyond normal knowledge, but was not until 2001 that he start to take it seriously. He had already done some cdr a couple of years ago with tracks containing electronica and ambient, and was quite unsatisfied with the results. he switched from trackers to sequencers.
In early 2003 he started doing demo tracks under the Petstov name. the tracks started sounding better to him. he smiled. it was a start. in december 2003 he had compiled a demo array of tracks ranging from 3/3 techno to electronica to ambient, and received good response from the listeners, which inspired him to concentrate on music even more.
404 is the last and present project of Petstov, a mixture of Ambient & dub-techno build under 120bpm.
