On DECEMBER 4th, STUNNA kicks off the month with yet another very special edition of 'THE GREENROOM' on BASSDRIVE radio. For this installment, we turn our attention to a young producer on the rise who's put together an exclusive guest mix just for this session. I introduce to you: THESIS.
Hailing from CAMBRIDGE, UK, THESIS (aka MATT ANDERSON) is an ATMOSPHERIC/LIQUID DRUM+BASS producer who's been steadily expanding and evolving his sound over recent years. Taking strong influences from film and video game original soundtracks, THESIS is one of the few up-and-coming producers in D+B who is effectively bridging the gap between the ATMOSPHERIC and LIQUID FUNK sub-genres of the music.
Having been shown the basics of LOGIC PRO by a friend at university, and since then learning to use the software largely via a combination of trial, error and intuition, in more recent years, THESIS has been learning, developing and moving forward with his productions. Already attracting the attention and support from scene luminaries such as LTJ BUKEM, LOMAX, STUNNA, TECHNIMATIC, LM1 and METHODUS, over the past couple of years in particular, THESIS has matured his production techniques to a point where he has established his own original sound: a signature sound combining beautiful and ethereal atmospheres with deep, rolling, bass lines to create truly warm productions that envelop the listener with a full range of emotions.
Now following a string of releases on prominent labels such as SOUL DEEP RECORDINGS, ROTATION UK and DNBB RECORDINGS, THESIS is confidently making his mark in the scene with his uniquely ethereal and deeply soulful LIQUID sound. He is a producer who firmly favors 'quality over quantity' - with his own music as well as that of other artists in the mix. With fresh material currently in the works, as well as forthcoming releases on labels such as ADVECTION MUSIC UK and REMINISCENCE AUDIO, THESIS is truly one of the young, talented artists of his generation to watch out for. Tune in!!
My take on 'Knuckles' by Justice and Metro, original available via www.modernurbanjazz.com. AIM: ZulSubvert E-mail: subvertmoves@hotmail.com. Hope you like it.
Friction's Shogun Audio label has had a spectacular 2013 with releases coming from Alix Perez, Rockwell, Spectrasoul and Artificial Intelligence to name a few.
As well as hosting nights in London and Brighton this year, they added to their already impeccable list of artists, snapping up young Harrogate-based producer Joe Ford to join their team.
With previous material on Bad Taste and Hospital Records offshoot Med School, he's found himself garnering well-deserved attention within the drum 'n' bass world and his affiliation with Shogun will no doubt see his unique, forward-thinking bass productions progress even further.
His track 'Stride' is on Shogun's 'Way Of The Warrior 2' compilation while 'Instrument' will appear on 'Shogun Audio Presents: 2013' and the youngster has now turned in an exclusive mix for Mixmag.
The CYN team steamroll into the festive period with Cyantific’s ‘Ice Cream’ b/w ‘Eski’s Song’
2013 has seen the CYN Label go from strength to strength and they’re ending the year with a blast. ‘Ice Cream’ - a favourite of the one and only Andy C - is a vintage slice of dance floor destruction. Displaying thuggish call and response, knock-out punches and the classic computer game stabs - ‘Ice Cream’ has got hoards of hungry punters chasing it down the street for one more taste.
The flip side sees Cyantific turn his hand to a deft and soulful roller. Smooth delivery laced with 80’s synth power and a nostalgic bassline makes ‘Eski’s Song’ transport you back to time where drum and bass was thriving and above all else, passionate. This show’s Cyantific’s ability to seamlessly morph yesterday’s textures with tomorrow’s sounds.
Get it when it comes out at all retail and digital outlets on Dec 9.

They need little introduction. For those familiar with LTJ Bukem's Good Looking imprint back in the mid 1990s may remember Blu Mar Ten from those heady days. But their second coming came circa 2009 after establishing Blu Mar Ten Music. Soon, they released the albums Natural History (2009) and Love is the Devil (2011).
This month sees the arrival of their latest album, Famous Lost Words.
Featuring 13 tracks of pure and unapologetic drum & bass, the album inhabits a similar territory to the previous two; full of emotional movements fused with tough beats that reinforce BMT’s position in the genre as originators of complex, atmospheric music.
Famous Lost Words' 71 minute duration also features a collection of collaborators. ‘Thin Air’ layers the alluring vocals of Robert Manos atop a bed of whirling synths and rolling bass. Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Agné Genyté, injects a dose of soothing lullaby tones into ‘Somewhere’, ‘Break It All Apart’ and ‘In Your Eyes’, while long-time friend and label mate Seba makes an appearance on ‘Hunter’, whose growling bass and Bladerunner synths play to the strengths of both artists.
Stunningly beautiful from start to finish, Famous Last Words is easily one of the year's best albums. Go get it.

Homemade Weapons from Seattle, USA flexes his unique approach to Drum and Bass. Pre order the Homemade Weapons 'Kintaro' EP limited edition 'Snow' white 12" from Surus with free MP3s HERE. Out Nov 25 2013.
Two songs dedicated to break ups. And what a lovely pair they are. Both producers graft lush and bountiful atmospherics on to rumbling basslines and crisp breaks, resulting in melodies that are absolutely hypnotic. And though Phil Tangent and Pennygiles are rugged, smooth-talking, tuxedo-wearing bosses who chop wood and hunt in their spare time (or so claim IM:LTD), these two moody rollers definitely begs your attention. Watch out for this one dropping on vinyl and digital from all the usual outlets on Nove 25 2013.
From mind warping sound mutations, dreamy sonic textures to half tempo interludes, Episode 64 - we humbly submit - is the perfect balance of groove and sci-fi atmosphere. 19 tracks in a compact 47 minutes, this is electronic music at its most spell binding. We hope you like it as much as we do. Download via iTunes.

Ingredients returns with a long player by the artist known as Dominic Petrie. Having been a fan of the mid 1990's Speed era, Ingredients really liked the demos Petrie sent over so the label decided to do a 7 track EP. With influences ranging from Good looking Records to Boards Of Canada, Tomorrow Now EP is rich in atmosphere and an absolute delight. BUY NOW.
Over the last 2 years, Hybrid Minds (aka Josh White & Matt Lowe) have quickly established a following for their own cinematic, musical and uplifting brand of drum & bass. And this forthcoming album - which came through our mailbox just hours ago - is an absolute delight. With tracks like Lost, Fade, Meant To Be and I’m Through clocking up in-excess of 2 million views between them, the demand for an album has been evident. Spearhead boss, Steve BCee, quickly caught on to this and, since singing them to his Spearhead Records imprint in 2012, has had them locked away honing their sound and crafting their finest work to-date.
Mountains features guest appearances from Ad-Apt, Charlie P, Philippa Hanna, Rocky Nti, BCee, Grimm, Holly Drummond, Mike Romeo, Laurence Baker, Linguistics, Tempza, Jasmine Spence and Mimi Page who each bring an extra little piece of magic. As tracks Trauma and Forest showcase, this is an album packed full of real music and some of the finest song-writing you will hear at 174 bpm. For those that like things a little slower now and again, the duo relax the tempo and take us deep with tracks like Broken and Ascent.
Mountains will be released as a double-pack, gatefold vinyl pack (which will include the CD version, shrink-wrapped inside), CD and digital download on Dec 1 2013. Get it!
The sheer volume and variety of releases Roni Size, Krust and DJ Die did back in the 1990s was staggering. More importantly, it was also massively influential: They moved effortlessly between lighter melodic productions and heavy tear out tracks, but there was always a common thread, whether they were working individually or collectively. Many of these tracks are great examples of just how much you can do with not much more than some drums and a bassline. So what we have here are two mixes taking you back to your roots. Don't miss out.

The Exit Records bossman, back on your screens! Broadcasted on Boiler Room on Oct 9 2013, at Boiler Room Vapor City Special: London w/ Machinedrum, dBridge, Fracture, Amit and Dream Continuum.
‘Somewhere’ / ‘Half the Sky’ is the first original material from Blu Mar Ten since 2011’s Love is the Devil album project. This is the first single from their forthcoming album 'Famous Lost Words', scheduled to appear at the end of the year. Both tracks, it must be said are absolutely lovely. Somewhere is a smooth afterhours roller where dusty chords and jazz horns mingle with a deadly deep sub-bass resulting in a pure fusion of modern dark jazz with drum & bass. Meanwhile, Half the Sky is an equally epic number driven by its distinctive break while weeping pianos, stuttering vocals, howling synthscapes and bell motifs tumble around them. If nothing else, both tracks prove 'Famous Lost Words' will be an exciting listen indeed. The single's out NOW and you can get your copy of the vinyl or digital copy HERE.
Zul (Subvert HQ, Singapore) has been DJing and promoting parties in the Lion City since the 1990s, performing along side the likes of dBridge, DJ Friction, Joe Syntax, Stamina MC, John B, A-Sides, Pendulum, Cyantific, Sonic, London Elektricity as well as Logistics and Hospital Records' Chris Goss. Gigs-wise, its gone from Hong Kong (he spent time with the White Label crew in 2001), Jakarta to London (playing at the legendary Hospitality parties in Shoreditch, UK) with bits of radio (MediaCorp Radio's Lush 99.5FM Clubscape sessions, to be exact) and a release on Take Off Records squeezed in between.
When not busy with his day job as a journalist in Singapore, Zul also keeps it cutting edge away from the dance floor with the Subvert Sessions Podcast (download via subverthq.blogspot.sg), blending together leftfield and idiosyncratic beats of the 170bpm variety.
