Though he got his start as a hip hop production wunderkind and scratch DJ known as 2tall, Jim Coles has since moved on to greener pastures with his particular brand of electronic bass music under the alias Om Unit. It’s paid off: after dropping releases on respected underground labels such as Civil Music and Dublin’s All City, Coles has taken the Om Unit sound around the globe to critical acclaim. For this special Boiler Room London set, he teams up with the original “King of the Rollers”, Scott McIlroy aka Doc Scott. A true‘n’bass legend with musical roots steeped in electro, hip hop, techno and house, it was the early 90s rave scene that led to Scott’s initial headlining DJ sets. In 1991 he released his first studio production, the N.H.S. EP, containing the monster Surgery track, and soon after was signed by the Reinforced crew who, under the Nasty Habits guise, put out Scott’s As Nasty As I Wanna Be EP, with the era-defining Here Comes The Drumz track. Alongside Goldie, Scott played a key role in the early Metalheadz years, releasing tracks on the label and becoming resident DJ at the legendary Sunday night Blue Note sessions.
Introducing a new member to the Foundation Collective – Skwiffer, a DJ that has invested years of time into honing his craft. Covering both a deeper and more technical side to Drum and Bass via turntables and an extensive collection of vinyl, Skwiffer’s mixes demonstrate a profound knowledge of the genre, alongside a fine-combed selection that any enthusiast would approve of.

When Machinedrum reinvented himself in 2011 with footwork as his muse, it sent seismic waves through bass music. By then footwork was the sound du jour, but Travis Stewart stood out by blending it with the pastoral textures of Boards Of Canada, the heart-in-mouth thrill of jungle, and his own polished aesthetic. We liked Room(s) so much that we gave it 5/5 rating. Needless to say the pressure was on for this year's follow-up, the excellent Vapor City, a concept record about an imaginary city and his first album for Ninja Tune.
Critical acclaim aside, Machinedrum's impact is evident in his RA podcast—one look at the tracklist and you'll see there's a whole legion of producers mashing up jungle, footwork and drum & bass into a thrilling fast-paced amalgam behind him (along with some tasty unreleased material of his own). Fracture, Om Unit, Tessela and Ital Tek are among the ranks bringing renewed attention to the tempo.

Zul (Subvert HQ, Singapore) has been DJing and promoting parties in the Lion City since the 1990s, performing along side the likes of dBridge, DJ Friction, Joe Syntax, Stamina MC, John B, A-Sides, Pendulum, Cyantific, Sonic, London Elektricity as well as Logistics and Hospital Records' Chris Goss. Gigs-wise, its gone from Hong Kong (he spent time with the White Label crew in 2001), Jakarta to London (playing at the legendary Hospitality parties in Shoreditch, UK) with bits of radio (MediaCorp Radio's Lush 99.5FM Clubscape sessions, to be exact) and a release on Take Off Records squeezed in between.
When not busy with his day job as a journalist in Singapore, Zul also keeps it cutting edge away from the dance floor with the Subvert Sessions Podcast (download via subverthq.blogspot.sg), blending together leftfield and idiosyncratic beats of the 170bpm variety.
