dBridge - Live at Womb
The Exit Records boss and drum‘n’bass maestro throws down some Amen-inspired breaks and future rollers. Live at Womb in Tokyo.
For those who don't know, dBridge aka Darren White’s first introduction into the music scene was in 1992, when he formed the Sewage Monsters outfit with his older brother Steve Spacek. In the mid-90s Darren met Jason Maldini and was soon working alongside him at Trouble On Vinyl. Whilst experimenting with beats the duo released their first 12" on Renegade Hardware, Flash Gordon/Jeep Beats, followed by a bunch of massive anthems. In 1998 Darren was one of the four founding members of Bad Company UK, based on the philosophy of re-energising what was becoming an increasingly minimalist musical genre. Their label BC Recordings defined a whole era in the genre, and as a production crew released on labels such as Prototype, Virus, RAM, React, and Formation, just to name a few. Bypassing the path leading to mainstream success, the crew instead opted to fuel the underground. This way of thinking was embodied in the birth of flagship internet forum dogsonacid.com, which gave fans and fellow artists alike the opportunity to express opinions, contribute ideas and greatly strengthened the global d’n’b community. Not staying still for long, dBridge co-produced Spacek’s second longplayer Vintage High-Tech which defined a new generation of British soul music, harnessing the power of today’s electronic media to create a vintage sound. Laterly his collaboration with Instra:mental created the short-lived but vital Autonomic club night, label and podcast series. Autonomic is credited with giving drum ‘n’ bass a much needed shot in the arm, and signposting the possibilities for a multitude of creative young producers. dBridge also helms his label Exit Records, a home to Om Unit, Dub Phizix, Amit, and veteran Marcus Intalex, and has also started another endeavour: Heart Drive. With a history as varied and colorful as his, no one knows what to expect next from dBridge: but it’s guaranteed to be ahead of the curve.

Om Unit b2b Doc Scott Live at RBMA x Boiler Room London
LISTEN HERE
Though he got his start as a hip hop production wunderkind and scratch DJ known as 2tall, Jim Coles has since moved on to greener pastures with his particular brand of electronic bass music under the alias Om Unit. It’s paid off: after dropping releases on respected underground labels such as Civil Music and Dublin’s All City, Coles has taken the Om Unit sound around the globe to critical acclaim. For this special Boiler Room London set, he teams up with the original “King of the Rollers”, Scott McIlroy aka Doc Scott. A true‘n’bass legend with musical roots steeped in electro, hip hop, techno and house, it was the early 90s rave scene that led to Scott’s initial headlining DJ sets. In 1991 he released his first studio production, the N.H.S. EP, containing the monster Surgery track, and soon after was signed by the Reinforced crew who, under the Nasty Habits guise, put out Scott’s As Nasty As I Wanna Be EP, with the era-defining Here Comes The Drumz track. Alongside Goldie, Scott played a key role in the early Metalheadz years, releasing tracks on the label and becoming resident DJ at the legendary Sunday night Blue Note sessions.

Instra:mental - Live at Audioriver Festival 2010, Poland
The duo of Al Bleek and Kid Drama, Instra:mental, had their debut in the London drum & bass scene way back in the year 2000. After a break they really hit their stride with releases on Soul:r and Darkestral. Since then they've been steadily building momentum with a number of influential singles across labels such as dBridge's Exit and Naked Lunch and developing a sound uniquely their own. From their south London studio, 'The Zoo', they've been rewriting the template of what drum'n'bass can be, crossing over into dubstep and decreasing the bpm whenever they feel like it. All along there's been a steady flow of collaborators, from No-U Turn legend Nico to the likes of Skream, Burial and longtime mate dBridge. Most recently the duo has been creating waves with their halfstep robo ballad "Watching You". They've also been awarded as "best breakthrough producers" by DJ Mag and while their monthly Autonomic podcast has been gaining a massive following, showcasting fresh tracks alongside classics from Minneapolis to Detroit and back to London. And with a debut album and a Fabriclive session looming on the horizon the future looks bright for Instra:mental.

RBMA Radio - Synkro vs Indigo [On The Floor! - Live at Deadly Rhythm, Plan B, London]
RBMA Radio - Synkro vs Indigo (Z Audio, Manchester) - On The Floor! - Live at Deadly Rhythm, Plan B, London
Synkro and Indigo have both independently (and sometimes together) been climbing up the ladder of credibility and recognition in the dubstep and two step scenes. Synkro is a long hailed tech producer in the current Manchester scene and the deep beats and haunting vocals spilling out of his studio like the 'You Don't Mind' EP are mesmerizing folks everywhere. Indigo has also been collecting supporters of his dubtech fusions of late, Modeselektor and Mary-Anne Hobbs included and he too has been accused of kick-starting the new wave of dub-driven productions coming out of Manchester. Here you can catch both of them back to back in full effect at Deadly Rhythm at London's Plan B.
