RQ - Shimmer / Traces

Enigmatic Kiwi, RQ, makes his first but hopefully not last appearance on BMTM. Following his glitchy outings on Samurai & Auxiliary and his own fledgling label DAWN, RQ has brought us two beautifully textured pieces that strongly recall Logical Progression-era Good Looking Records.

SHIMMER
The mutant child of Photek’s classic ‘Rings Around Saturn’, Shimmer blends classic jazz chords with glittering bells and pianos before injecting lovely, wobbly bass notes all over the shop.

TRACES
A new definition of ‘slow burner’, RQ takes us back to the days when we were made to wait 4 minutes for a tune to pay off. Traces’ Autonomic opening styles eventually give way to a majestic, cruising amen, elegantly laced with cavernous pads and pitched vocals.

Klute kicks 2015 off with a bang for Commercial Suicide with his first solo 12” outing of the year.

2015 represents a landmark of 20 years since the release of Klute’s first 12” on Certificate 18 records back in 1995. Be prepared for much more Klute this year

“To mark the occasion I’ve decided to release as much new music as I can throughout the year as singles or EP’s as opposed to my traditional route of saving everything up for an album releases every couple of years. Kimyan Law - Coeur Calm [forthcoming on Blu Mar Ten Music]

Just 19 years old, Kimyan Law (real name Nico Mpunga), belongs to the African Diaspora. The son of a Congolese father and Austrian mother, Mpunga resides in Vienna, unable until recently to return to his homeland due to the devastating Congolese Civil War.

Born on Christmas Day 1994, Mpunga was a melancholic child. A lone black youth studying in all-white environments he was a victim of racism; a difficult and depressing atmosphere which led him to find respite and consolation in music. Making recordings using instruments improvised from trash he soon graduated from using wood, glass and his own voice to a mastery of drums, piano, marimba and flute, channeling his childhood difficulties into creation.

At the age of 12 Mpunga started exploring the possibilities of electronic music, experimenting with primitive looping on a PSP and then pursuing audio-engineering courses, learning so fast he rapidly started tutoring others. The last couple of years have seen Kimyan Law blossom into the artist we see before us today. Deep explorations into his African roots have led him to create complex mosaics of ancient sound with modern aesthetics. A true ‘artist’ rather than the all-too-common ‘engineer’ found in modern electronica, Mpunga constantly talks of the meaning and imagery in his music, referring to his tracks as ‘portraits’.
It will come as no surprise that Mpunga’s highly visual sensibilities do not stop at sound. He is also a painter, graphic designer and video director. A true polymath, a genuine prodigy.

Kimyan Law’s music is a thing of rare beauty. Having its roots in Drum & Bass it flies far beyond the confines of that often-formulaic genre, expanding sonic ranges and disrupting standard arrangements. Mpunga incorporates African instruments and influences into his high-tech set up, achieving a rare organic and human quality amongst the cold electronics. Glittering cascades of tuned percussion are expertly weaved into layers of state-of-the-art bass and the result is a stunning array of romantic and cinematic music that, with its sheer humanity, seduces everyone who experiences it.

Vaccine - Decryption EP | Auxiliary

Vaccine returns to Auxiliary with a digital only offering for our Transmissions series. Four tracks here from the depths of the Vaccine vaults, sitting mainly around the 140 bpm mark. These tracks are actually from a few years back, when Vaccine was working with the likes of Nonplus and Hotflush. First up is the EP's title track, Decryption. Super high tech percussion and strange sounds trigger off huge bass and stark eerie manipulated vocals. Dark science. Bad Habit goes a little lighter and introduces a vocal to stunning effect. Nurse drops the tempo to 85bpm and keeps the bass heavy. Fans of the Autonomic podcast may remember this one. Finally, Electrolyte (Decryption Part 2) is the light to Decryption's darkness - an alter-ego of sorts. Stunning stuff from start to finish. Get it HERE.

Utopia's 16^th vinyl single brings label stalwart Break into the fold once again for a hard hitting roller that has been getting reactions all over the globe since it got leaked into the top DJ's hands. The A side teams up the Symmetry boss with Utopia label honcho and recent Metalheadz addition Mako, with his long term partners Fields and Villem. The production and weight are unreal whilst retaining a woody rather than plastic aesthetic.

The flip sounds like a Lenzman classic but instead is brought to you by rising stars Chromatic. Growing in confidence, they have recently been releasing on Hype's Playaz label and are producing quality dance floor bass lines without the need for the screechy mid range bass that has become so prevalent in modern drum and bass.  Warm bass, beats and keys and no need for much else.

New BREAK on WARM COMMUNICATIONS

Vibing off of light, layered keys and female R&B coos, Break gives us a rolling five minutes of pure A-side. Not to be lost in the air, a thickly chopped break plays overtop sub bass as filter resonances enter at the offsides, carefully touching on the interplay of voice and gated percussion. This is a rattling piece that's as much deep house as it is liquid step.

Break's take on Mako's recent Billie Holiday homage bounces its bass and hi-freq drums between two densely layered snare notes. Splices of tape-delayed voice dither off into an empty jazz-space, leaving a heavy analog-sounding synth, motes of vinyl dust and a closing section that fades just before returning to the tonicó ready for the final phase of your mix.

It comes out in September, look out for it at all your favourite music outlets.

In 2013 Frederic Robinson released his stunningly unique Mixed Signals album to universal praise from audience and industry alike. At the same time, Frederic was also building up his equally unique live performance. The results of that live performance, captured in this new release available HERE, eschews the usual 2-CDJs-and-a-mixer routine for something completely mesmerising.

Here, he creates a completely new live experience using a bizarre array of instruments spanning the antique, the modern and the homemade. Rather than relying on vast amounts of playback, Frederic builds the tracks from scratch during each performance introducing large elements of improvisation and risk to the music and offering his audience a unique show each and every time. Using a mixture of drumming, modified Wii controllers, wired-up kalimbas, his trusty violin and his own voice, Frederic takes the listener on a journey though adaptations of tracks from Mixed Signals, some new material exclusive to his live work and reinterpretations of some of his remix projects.

After much persistence we managed to persuade the Mutated Forms boys that Crowlin deserved to see the light of day and, finally, this glorious, piano-driven, slidey-bass, chopped-vocal roller will be available to everyone. Pushy, real name Christophe Bergeron, defies classification. Sonic - Times Flowing / Headtop [Nemesis Recordings]

After being in and out of the music game for some years now working alongside Silver and the North Base crew, Jasper Byrne aka SONIC is back with a first of many singles to come in the pipe line on the mighty NEMESIS RECORDINGS.

If you did not already know SONIC has been working on a award winning computer game called LONE SURVIVOR for the past 5-6 years. Recently released on the PS2, SONIC has now found time again for is first love and that is making beautiful music. Starting off the show with TIME'S FLOWING and again is a soon to be an award winning track, SONIC gets down deep and dirty with some hard 2 step beats and lashing snare to start. Erie winter sounds are conjured up in the intro until that catchy guitar riff puts you in a trance throughout the groove. Big boy reece fills out the bass end of this roller while the triply vocals of Jasper come in and out like a ghost in the night. Next up on the list is the amen tearer (and our personal favourite) HEADTOP. Once again beautiful intro takes control of your mind while the smooth chimes of piano take your soul until that raw beat just cuts right through like a knife! Kicking sub lines and special effect makes this a B side to take you back to the days of the amen, as SONIC shows us how a classic is done in a 2014 style. Already gaining support from the likes of LTJ BUKEM, MARCUS INTALEX, DUBPHIZIX, FUTUREBOUND,
